I took birth,
I cried,
And squirmed
In her lap.
I felt her warmth
I learnt the word – Comfort
From no one, but my Mom.

I grew older
And found him strong,
I saw him bringing things for me
Before I even utter anything.
I learned to be a provider,
A protector and a supporter
From no one, but my father.

I fought,
I teased and played,
I snatched their belongings,
As I gifted them all I have.
I learned – caring and sharing
Whether I am bitter or better
From no one else,
but all my sweet brothers and sisters.

I went to school,
I went to college,
I studied a lot,
Became very wise, sometimes a fool.
I made friends,
Who took off all my stress,
Made me nonchalant and stout
Managing everything on my own, as a man
Learning the lessons of – freaking out.

I got married,
Had someone by my side, my wife
Who took all the strife,
Borne the burden together
As a friend and companion.
From her, I learned the art of sacrifice,
And learned how to keep myself suffice.

I became matured,
As I learned, and I learned from many…
Whom I met in the walks of my life,
I found someone to teach me, to inspire me
To learn from and to gain wisdom
Without being a foolish and uncanny.

Learning never ends in life,
It is as common as sufferings and strife.
I found a teacher around me, all the time,
From whom I learned and felt sublime.
And today!!!
I wish them all…
With all my heart and mind –
A Happy Teachers Day!!!

Love Never Fails

In this world of dark disparity,
We struggle with our sustainability.

We hope for the best to happen,
Yet find relationships unfruitful and broken.

We crave and strive to be reconciled,
But nothing gets materialized.

On a spark of love we finally rely,
That springs forth from  hearts sinful and sly.

It gives new meaning to life,
Keeping the relationships sublime.

Is love really a power divine?
Or a mere waving of a wand of angelic design?

Love is above all things,
Love has a virtue of long-suffering.

Love never envies or boasts,
In everything it believes and hopes.

Love never behaves rudely,
But accepts everyone and gets angry barely.

Love never seeks its own,
But shows its kind compassion.

Love never rejoices in evil,
But rejoices in truth and stands still.

Love perseveres everything and toils,
Love stays forever and never fails.

It was destined that we meet…

And we met…

We know each other for long…

Yet we never met before till that day…

We started to interact…

Yet we never met before till that day…

We started to work together…

Yet we never met before till that day…

The day came finally

When you offered a hand of simple friendship…

I was touched deep down within myself…

With your immaculate simplicity…

That transcended my mind, my heart and my whole being.

The world around is complex…

The people in it are complex…

Yet among all the complexities…

You had something very easy and simple to offer…

A simple heart, a simple mind and a beautiful soul all together…

You have those eyes…

Which are the windows for all others to peep inside you…

But nobody can peep inside you unless they value those eyes…

The eyes that depict your inner beauty…

The eyes describe your subtlety…

The eyes unfetter your love to flow through…

And you know how I adore those eyes…

They are my easy access to reach you.

Your worries…

Your cares…

Your concerns…

Your love for me…

Make me strong as well as vulnerable.

Your simplicity is more sophisticated

Than the so called sophisticated people of this world…

I adore your persona,

Your simple loving heart…

Your beautiful mind…

Beautifully flowed your emotions…

I admire and am allured to all…

Stay just the way you are…

Unchanged and unruffled…

Remember! I treasure you in my heart…

I respect and love you…

I will always preserve you…

Will protect your heart and mind…

Will never judge you…

Will always be with you.

I don’t condemn you…

Self-righteousness can literally destroy the way Jesus taught us to love others. It alienates you from the people around you who are supposed to be your neighbour as Jesus says in Luke 10:25-37.

In John 8th chapter people brings a woman caught in adultery. The self-righteousness of the people were about to kill that woman that day. She had committed sin, no doubt about it but Jesus was moved with compassion. He was more worried about the soul than the sin which she had committed.

Jesus asked a simple task from them: “He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.”

And the Bible says, “And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last.”

Interesting! Isn’t it?

So the implication is, their consciences let them know and understand that they were also not free from sin… just any sin… A sin is a sin… whether its adultery or a lie… it is same from God’s point of view. That day only Jesus had the authority to judge and throw a stone at a sinner as He was sinless and the Saviour. If He would have picked up the stone to kill that woman then He would have picked up many more stones to kill all standing there literally as all have sinned and have fallen short of His glory.

Jesus’ compassionate heart comforted the woman when He said to her, “Neither do I condemn you: go, and sin no more.”

When the saviour frees a sinner then who are we, “The self-righteous” bunch of people who brag about our righteousness by condemning others?

Jesus was tagged as “a friend of sinner”. If He would not have then I would not have been saved. I am so soaked with His loving act that I see others through His eyes.

Friends, unless we see others in Jesus’ eyes we will be only like clanging cymbals to them.

Dealing with tough times like Jesus did…

On Thursday, 13th April 2017… I was asked to preach in a church in the evening time. I chose the portion where Jesus was going through deep sorrow knowing that His time for being crucified was near. The Bible portion in Matthew 26:36-46 reads as under:

36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and He said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”

37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and He began to be sorrowful and troubled.

38 Then He said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”

39 Going a little farther, He fell with His face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

40 Then He returned to His disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” He asked Peter.

41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”

43 When He came back, He again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy.

44 So He left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.

45 Then He returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners.

46 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”

Jesus’s agony as a 100% human was humongous… Can you imagine of carrying the sins of the whole world (including the past, present and future) alone as a human being? When I feel extreme discomfort or sick the fear of death makes me so anxious… We usually feel so horrible even with the thought of death then just imagine as a human what Jesus must be going through. The Bible says angels came to strengthen His human stature so that He can fulfill the divine saving act for the whole human kind.

This is the background of His agony…

Now in this state of my mind He did exactly TWO things which we need to learn from Him for our life.

1. Seek the SUPPORT & PRESENCE of His closest: Usually when we go through tough times we take ourselves to a corner, sit quietly, cry in our bathroom, avoid crowd and people. Sometimes we ask others to leave the person alone for sometime. May be that’s the right thing we do when somebody goes through a very difficult time… But when I looked my eyes up to my Saviour I found Him seeking His loved ones presence and support when He was in deep anguish. The research says that the persons with good and strong family supports usually tend to get out of their sorrows quicker than those who don’t have that support system.

Next time when I am in pain I will seek your presence and support definitely if you are in the list of my close friends and family.

2. Seek the SUPPORT & PRESENCE of His Heavenly Father: The second thing what He did was ‘Praying to His father’. The three very important aspects of His prayer was, firstly, He affirmed the power of His Father God by praying, “My Father, if it is possible…” He acknowledge that only His Heavenly Father can make things happen; it is His prerogative to make anything possible. Secondly, He poured His heart by praying, “…may this cup be taken from me”. And thirdly, He submitted and surrendered His whole being to His father’s will as He prayed finally, “Yet not as I will, but as YOU will”.

Jesus being 100% God Himself didn’t get away from His responsibilities as a Saviour. He carried out His messianic responsibilities even if He was 100% human being going through extreme agony before and during His death and crucifixion. That’s the reason why He surrendered Himself fully into His Father’s hands and will.

TWO very important lessons that I got to know from the event that happened in the garden of Gethsemane while preparing my sermon that day. I decided I am not going to switch off my connections from my loved ones as well as my connections with my Heavenly Father. I will keep both my vertical as well as horizontal relationship in tact while going through tough times in life.

So Friends! Whenever you go through difficult times just look up to the Saviour who so beautifully explained it through His own life.

Hope this helps… Stay Blessed!!!

I see myself in her…

It was the second week of November 2016. I was introduced to her with her whatsapp number by an acquaintance. I didn’t know her at all. She was just a virtual face for me as many others. I was told that she is a girl who is interested in my webzine and who has interest in writing as well. I added her to my webzine’s whatsapp broadcast and also pinged her by expressing my gratitude for showing interest in Candles Online. She let me know that she loves reading, writes occasionally and also told me her genre of interests in writing. I let her understand the way we function in Candles Online and she captured it instantly. And to my surprise, she submitted her first article within three days of our meeting. Her article was published on 11th November 2016 for the first time on Candles Online. She was delighted as well as all her near and dear ones.

I have a habit of opening up myself to anybody I meet or talk to. I did the same with her yet the progression of my relationship with her was very normal and natural. The major obstacle between us was our age gaps, she was 21 and I was 41 but God used that obstacle as the foundation of our relationship.

As she started writing her articles and kept in touch with me on a regular basis we get to know each other more and more. The more I get to know her the more I get amazed by her personality. Our interactions were casual till that day when she was sounding very distressed and downcast. I am kind of sharp about understanding people’s mind even through chatting. I insisted her to share with me and she shared her problem. I prayed for her and we had talks over the phone couple of times and became closer. She found a confidant in me, as a spiritual father and I find a sweet daughter in her. Her innocent queries about life and other issues fascinated me… made me feel like a father more and more she asked me matters to understand about the life. And I let her understand in simpler way which she can understand. But I found her to be a very matured girl to her age. I get to know her other hidden talents apart from the skill of writing articles and poems. She was a good singer and has a very beautiful voice. We became spiritual father and daughter… But we yet to meet with each other though there was no scope for that in recent future…

God was wonderful. He never allows us to suffer for long. He fulfills it even if its just a small need. He listened to the longing of my heart.

She was looking for a job and with my initiation she could join the school which is under our NGO in the month of February 2017. In the mean time I was held responsible for something and was urgently asked to visit to the place where we have our school. In these months of February and March this year I was going through extreme pressure at work and family. It was a very difficult transition period for me which I  was going through. I was asked to go on a tour which I felt was quite burdensome for me when the viscosity of my blood was very high. Usually I give excuses and try to get away from the responsibility stating about my health conditions but I don’t know what happened… this time I was not at all in a mood to take a step back. I prayed to God asking Him to give me strength and got ready. And when I realised that I will be getting an opportunity to meet with her I calmed the storm down within me which has been troubling me for last few days. The trip was not at all a happy trip but I had assurance that God will be with me and He has some amazing plans for me. I was reminded of the psalm in Ps. 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God.”

I wanted to give her a surprise so I didn’t inform her that I will be meeting her within three days. I boarded my train and reached the destination. It was early morning. The school was all quiet. I knew she must be in her room in the hostel. I along with my colleagues went to the rooms arranged for us and started to get fresh. It was quite cold at the place where we went than Kolkata and I was searching for blankets to stay warm. There’s a sliding door to the hall where we were staying and I heard it opening…

And there there… A young petite girl walked in with the blankets for us in her hands. We recognized each other right away as we knew our faces very well. A joyful glee formed in both of our faces as I spread my arms wide for her to come in for a hug… She put her one arm around me as I wrapped my arms around her hugging. I felt all my burden, my pain, my sadness vanished in no time. I was not cold any more as the warmth my heart felt at that particular moment was indescribable. She giggled and spoke gently as I released her from hugging… “I knew you will be coming Papa…I heard it yesterday and I was delighted.” The word ‘Papa‘ made me climb cloud nine. I felt like floating in the air. She kept the blankets on our beds and went out to bring the breakfast for us. After sometime she came again with the responsible person who supposed to give us food. She carried the food with her as well. She had that joyful smile bubbling all the time in her beautiful face. I was sitting on the edge of the bed and talking with the in charge of the school and my colleagues when she walked to the bed and sat brushing against me as I put my arms around her. I felt like a proud and happy father of a amazing daughter. There were so many unheard and inexpressible emotions surging out from within us for each other yet we were so unable to express them all at a time in the midst of few other sitting around us. She had classes to take and I had to go out with my colleagues for the purpose we were there. We parted for that time.

That day in the evening I was very tired because of the journey and for the work all day. I came back and slept knowing that she will be busy with with the hostel children. At around 8 PM I woke up with a notification sound. It was her message which read, “Papa…what are you doing…Come down.” I replied back “No… not now as I am very hungry. We will talk after the dinner only.” As every other good  and understanding daughter she understood what I was saying and said, “Ok Papa…sure”.

We got the opportunity to talk to each other at peace only after the dinner. I remember all the time I gave only instructions and she listened to me carefully. She had lots to ask her Dad, her Papa… She didn’t loose the opportunity. I tried to clarify as much as I can. But the best part of our meeting was when we both prayed together for sometime. I uttered the words unto the God and she prayed along with me. I could hear her sobbing softly as I was praying for her mentioning her problems and her dilemmas which she shared with me earlier… After the prayer she was looked quite relieved as I was. She danced joyfully saying, “How much I wanted someone like you who can be my friend as well as a guide… And God heard my prayer. He is so great… His plan is amazing.” I was thanking God in my heart for displaying the one of the most beautiful splendour of His creation and it was her and her cheerful face. As we were talking I felt dizzy because of extreme tiredness. My daughter ran to the kitchen and brought a glass of warm water for me to help me feel better. I had a good night sleep that day. It was 2nd of March 2017.

The next day again we had little work in the morning. And I had little work with the in charge of the school then again I got the opportunity to spend the time with my daughter from lunch time till I said a good bye to her at the station. Yeah… she came with us in the vehicle to drop her Papa in the train station. I felt she wanted to say so many things… but we lacked right opportunity to have a heart to heart talk with each other. We had to depart. Parting has always been my biggest enemy. I watched her as she looked back waving her hands while the school vehicle moved away from my sight. She told me the same when I called her from the train… “I saw Papa how you were looking at me waving your hands at me…”

I had few gifts with me for her including the earings my wife bought for her. But she actually I received so much from her which I can’t even weigh its worth ever. I remembered her smile, her laughter that made me so warm. I remembered the way she was sobbing softly when I was praying… The feeling was so divine. I remembered her innocent queries as a little baby asking her father for the clear understanding of the matter difficult for her to understand. I remembered those little good things she did for me by bringing the blankets, foods, water and so on… I admired her attitude of humility which she displayed wholeheartedly in her classroom while teaching the kids, in the staff room while interacting with her colleagues as well as the seniors, in the kitchen while helping the cook, while serving the food. She didn’t let anybody feel that she should not be doing this or that because she is appointed as a teacher. She adorned herself with the character of humility, meekness, gentleness, cheerfulness, compassion, care and utmost diligence.

I remember when I came back to Kolkata. I missed her presence so much. I wept when I was in the bathroom. She literally fills that part of my emptiness in my life… I remember I told my wife once… “You know she fulfills my unfulfilled desire.” And my wife innocently asked “where do you feel that joy? Is it in your heart or in mind…?” I didn’t have the answer for her. But I know she, my daughter was the second best gift from God after my wife and I love her so much. I don’t know whether I can meet her or not in person ever again… I don’t know whether I can ever claim her as my daughter in front of the whole world… But I feel her heart as a father feels her daughter’s tiniest emotions… My heart pains when I see her disturbed and in sorrow… I understand her mind before she utters any words… Yet my heart overflows with joy when I see that thirst for God in her as I had when I was young…. I see that compassion and care for people around her as I have for all… I see her loving confrontation as I usually do with my loved ones… I see myself in her

I don’t like to give any name here… not because I want to keep it hidden but because I don’t want to let the focus shift away from the purity of our relationship and the feelings of a father for her daughter.

I confess… this was a very happy and satisfying yet extremely emotional write up for me as I end here…

Wow! My Heart Still Beats for Her…

I tried to call my wife twice when I was in office. But she didn’t respond. I thought she must be busy in her classes in the school. She returns back to home at around 4 pm in the afternoon and I come back, say around 6 pm. We usually send SMSs to each other regarding few household things from each others’ work places with our respective phones.

I returned back home at my usual time and saw its still locked from outside, which was an indication that she hasn’t come yet. I went inside and just sat down thinking what could be the possible reasons of her delays. Then I remember tomorrow is the foundation day of her school and she must be busy preparing along with others. I press the call button again on my cell. It rang. No response. I just laid my tired body on the bed and watched the cartoon for sometime. Then I went and took bath as it was too hot today in the day time. I came back from bathroom and sent two more SMSs to her. Then again I called. Its 6:45 pm. I thought how can it be that late? Why she is not picking up the phone? She should have answered my SMSs atleast! I usually don’t bother about delays if informed earlier but she never told me that she would be late. I just guessed that she may be busy for tomorrow.

I was feeling hungry. I made little noodles. Then called my sister who used to work in the same school two months ago. I asked her if she know the school number. It was a ‘no’ from her. She told me not to worry as she would definitely be busy for tomorrow. I calmed down and sat to eat…

I finished my noodles and was resting. After sometime I again checked my watch, it was 7:45pm and I was then really worried. I thought of putting my jeans on again and start for her school. Then I thought let me ask my sister to call one of her colleagues as she was having their numbers with her. She called a teacher and then called me back again saying, ‘the other teacher said, Asmita just got out of the school now.’

Ah…what a relief…! I pressed her number again and she picked up this time. She said her phone and bag was in the office as she was busy in the class decorating and rehearsal for tomorrow. She came back after sometime. But I was already on SW.

As I was thinking what to write tonight, a thought came to me about today’s incident. How many times we fought with each other, how many times we disagree with many things, how many times I have shouted at her for some or other reasons…but the worries that I had for her wihtout any reason struck me. And gave me an assurance that I am still in love with her.  The beating of heart for her felt good later after knowing see is ok.

It is not always important to know whether she loves me or not. Sometimes it is also important for us to know whether I still love her or not. In fact, that assurance will give us the confidence to ask her, ‘do you love me?’

These worries for petty things in life are reassuring. Trust me it is always very soothing and satisfying when we get to know that we both still love each other the way we used to love in the beginning.  It’s a great feeling to know that my heart still beats for her and vice versa. That gives us a sense of immense security in our relationship. I am feeling that right now and I am feeling great.

May God bless us to understand the deepest mysteries of a marriage relationship.

Stay Blessed!

A Mess of Hasty Decision – A Lifetime Lesson

We used to love to sit in front of each other and talk for hours. We used love each others presence. She would always care for me from the very beginning. Our EQ was in the same level. Our thought processes were alike. Our value systems were matching too.

But there was a gap which I could not see it.

We used to give each other cute small gifts. We used to go together and sit together. People used to suspicious about our ways. We used to smile and laugh together. We used to wink at each other. We used to understand our each little hint for each other.

But there was a difference which I could not make out.

We used to care for each other. We used to share every bit of our daily happenings with each other. We used to share our sorrows and our small happiness with each other. We used to comfort and console each other.

Yet there was something missing which I could not sense it.

My love was budding for her. My admiration was growing for her. I used to adore her. I used to stay close to her all the time. I felt a blank when she was not there with me. I felt a sense of satisfaction when she was around me. I felt for her. I fell for her.

Finally, I made a decision one day without knowing the consequence.

I waited for everybody to vacant the room for lunch. I stole my opportunity. I came to her desk. I smiled and sat in front of her desk. I looked at her smiling face and smiled back. I said, “I wanna confess something.” She looked curious and said, “Go on…” I said, “I think I need you in my life forever.” I saw her face glow. She looked down and said, “I have the same feeling for you…” The whole world looked pink and green. Everything seemed good and beautiful. The heart was filled with joy and happiness.

All these happened just after three months of our friendship. And just after three months, we broke up. I didn’t even know whether she was really had any such feelings for me or not, as she never made herself clear on this matter. May be I misunderstood her. And there were so many, ‘MAY BEs’

It was December when we broke up. It was the worst Christmas and New Year (in the very next year) experience of my life. I was down, I was sad, I was miserable. I was broken, I was shattered, I was blank. I was cursing and cursing and cursing myself for confessing my feelings to her. I was regretting for losing a great friend. I was suffering for my hasty decision. I made a real mess of my friendship by naming it. I should have waited for little more months. I should have waited on God in prayer a bit more. I made a mess. I made a mess. I made a mess. I was not able to forgive myself. It’s my fault and it was my mess.

But this mess taught me a lesson, changed my perspective, and gave me a new life.

I learned that it is always good to wait for the right time to name a friendship, a relationship. It is never good to be in haste and decide anything in respect of a lifetime relationship.

My perspective changed in respect of understanding the emotional responses of a female.

I was angry on her that time and decided I will show her who I am. Later I had to go through a very tough time but I found a new me in that suffering. The incident really challenged me to live, to get married, and to lead a great life. And that’s what happened later on by the grace of God. I became matured in respect to my emotion and feelings. And now I could help others those who go through relationship problems. I forgave her and forgot the incident.

I can only summarize, a mess of hasty decision taught me a lesson for lifetime.

Stay Blessed!

Shall Never Thirst

“Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinks of this water shall thirst again:

But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst;

but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”

John 4:13, 14
